That was deep! are you sure it was your dream?
My ignorance aside, what's that line supposed to mean?
Anon- yes, it was in my dream.
Sudhir - The literal meaning is that, the place is closer for men and farther for women. Because, men can walk through mean streets that are not safe enough for women. So when he mentions the distance he says, "5 streets for men and 8 for women."
Metaphorically, it refers to gender inequality etc.
Ah, thought as much. Just wondered if the '8 streets for women' referred to the more options available for a woman if she were prepared to not take much heed of morality. You know, the same way many women with 'loose morals' become politicians.
But, yeah.
India (ominously): We know. We definitely know. We know for sure. It's Pakistan's way of slowing our economic progress. We will get back at them.
Pakistan: Oh, India's muslims, you knoww... They are a neglected lot. Hindus trample upon them all the time. It's little wonder then that they decided to retaliate.
US: For fuck's sake, get your acts together. Come on, let's nail Iraq. We clearly know they're responsible.
UK (looking at US): Oh, if you say so.
Wow, the US-Iraq subject keeps coming out all the time.
Suresh,
waiting for a post from you, linking the mumbai terror attack to Brahmins, sorry Brahminism...
Anon,
I applaud your attempt at sarcasm, but the link is probably not as ridiculous as you thought (when you left your comment).
Lot of people have blamed Advani's politics -- especially his 'rath yaathras' that lead to the demolition of the Babri Masjid -- as the instigator of domestic Islamic terrorism (from where it took a strong action-reaction dynamic). And Advani, as you probably know, is a Brahmin.
Wow, You really Do tie everything to Brahmins and not even Brahminism anymore! But this generalization of yours that Advani instigated Muslim terrorism, is no way true.. Just google around to find lots of related stuff, if you seriously want to know...
Watch this and probably you would tie this also to Brahmins.

Anon,
I didn't even say anything about the blasts (never have). You tried to be a smart ass and I returned the favour.
Personally, I don't have any soft corner for Muslims and I've expressed it quite clearly elsewhere. I don't have any more interest in engaging in this useless exchange and I'm not letting this space get any more irrelevant to the actual post.
>And Advani, as you probably know, is a Brahmin.
WRONG! Though I don't necessarily disagree with your line of argument, this is PLAIN WRONG. Another surprising slip-up from you after Bharatiraja :(
Yes, I stand corrected.
It's Vajpayee who's a Brahmin. I knew Advani is an upper caste Sindhi. Some google results says he's Baniya. Not sure.
Maybe that's the point Pakistan tried to make, when they said that the dissatisfied Muslims in India caused the terror attack.
Sudhir,
I would really appreciate if we took this discussion to a relevant post (even though there's probably none yet).
Oh, couldn't help rambling, even though I knew Nidhdhirayin Nindhanai had nothing in connection to it. Sorry about that.
No, don't worry. It's not that the comment was not related to the post. It's not happening for the first time. I'm actually ok with that.
It's the topic that I don't want to get into; at least at the moment.
Suresh..when is your next podcast?..it has been a very long time since you posted one....expecting your views regarding many issues going on...
I'm also waiting for Suresh's next podcast.
