Stupid Me

I had not made any research about Bharathiraja's background until now and I assumed he was from a Dalit caste (because of his proverbial friendship with Ilayaraja). Turns out he is from the Thevar caste.
Now that I know the truth about Bharathiraja's caste, I'm so embarrassed by the misjudment. Damn! His movies and characters...it all makes sense now.

Curious... Why does it matter?

In any case, majority of his films are affected by simplistic instinctive naive discernment (incl. politics), slanted caste characterizations, and inferior aesthetic. But I realize my special weakness for "Mudhal mariyadhai" and few other films.

You already said it. But I can't help wondering how you were unaware of this. It's written all over in his movies and characters, especially in all his classics.

Anu - It does, if you look at it from a certain perspective. Try to read the article I had linked in my previous post's comments section (if you're interested, that is).

Thilak - Ok.

Ganesh - I know. It's one of 'those' things.
