That was an extremely bad attempt at telugu speaking, by the way. :p

suresh,

it's telugu not telungu. And my comment about flash streaming was about the whole flash file stupidity that the internet has embraced. I can't see it even if you fixed it because .... no windows.

Arunima,

Telegu is 'Telengu' when you say it in Tamil (or when you type Tamil in English).
Well, 'the internet' always embraces something or the other that doesn't quite sit well with Mac OS, Linux etc., doesn't it?

Unknown said...

well Suresh, I guess you are not aware that Linux and Mac OS have flash working on its systems now. That's ok. You dont need to know about that.

But please telugu is telugu when written in english. you cant really draw parallel to typing tamil in english, because the 'zh' sound doesn't really have a phonetic equivalent in english that is widely used. so tamil is tamil. but telugu is telugu, which by the way is not really phonetically right anyway, but doesn't sound fucked up like when you write 'telungu'.

when is your next mahabharath podcasts? I enjoyed them and look forward to more. Your tamil diction is quite superb.

Hi Arunima,

I don't want this exchange acquire an 'unfriendly' tone but I'll reply anyway.

{{That's ok. You dont need to know about that.}}- Whoa! That was rather judgmental (of course when I replied I added the 'etc' to dilute my assumption; which was a banter anyway).

You seem a little too serious about the whole Telegu/'telengu' thing. Once we type things that don't make sense as English words, the sentence enters a different realm that doesn't have many fixed rules (except for a few that exist on consensual perpetuation). Since I was typing as I was saying it, it got out as 'telengu' instead of Telegu, which as you say, probably does sound a lot less fucked up (even in the form under discussion here).
True, I also agree with you when you say 'Tamil' is 'Tamil' in English (as in words that make sense in English). This is one of those 'rules' that I follow and I'm personally used to. So even if say 'Tamizh' when I type, I don't type it that. Of course, there are others who do (like 'The Individualist' above).
So, yeah, I'm sorry I broke the rule that doesn't exist ;).

About my podcasts - Thanks, I'm very pleased indeed. I think I'll publish one this weekend. Cheers.

I didnt understand why the exchange had to forcibly acquire a friendly tone, which wasn't missing all this while.

you probably thought that because I used the 'f' word or perhaps because I dragged this unnecessary 'telungu' thing too far. Be sure that I used the 'f' word for the word 'telungu' and not for anybody using it. It probably trickled down into collective usage due to the numerous guys who live in the border between andhra and TN. But I always wonder where the 'n' in telugu came from, simply because there is no need for the 'n' at all.

About the linux thing, I was just being direct and not unfriendly or sarcastic or judgemental. You dont have to know because I see you are sociologist and I assumed that you wouldn't have anything to do with software, which is a bit judgemental but was not intended. It merely means that I need to improve my writing and arguing skills, if i had any.

Suresh ET said...

Seems like it was all a misunderstanding. Yeah, the 'linux comment' makes a lot of 'friendly' sense now. It wasn't your fault, it's my past (with engg and n/w that you didn't know about) that pulled the reaction from me. (No it wasn't the 'f' word.) So I'm still relatively passionate about comptuer stuff.
Never mind, "idhellam arasiyal'la...." :p
