He he ... there are always such Jayalalithas. You should have tried "Aishwarya sucks in acting", 6 years ago (now its a more friendly statement).

அடிச்ச பாம்பையே எத்துனை நாள் அடிப்பாங்க. கீழேவரும் வரிகள் வயிறு வலிக்க சிரிக்க வைத்தது.

//முதலில் இந்த நாத்திக ஆத்திக சண்டையெல்லாம் காலாவதியாகி விட்ட விஷயங்கள் என்றே கமலுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. இப்போதெல்லாம் ஆத்திகவாதிகள்தான் ஆதங்கவாதிகளாக மாறி , மற்ற மதத்தினரை வெட்டிப் போடுவதும் அவர்கள் மீது குண்டு வீசுவதுமாக இருக்கிறார்கள். நாத்திகவாதிகள் பாவம் , இந்தக் குண்டு வீச்சு கலவரங்களுக்கிடையே தங்கள் உயிரைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ள வேண்டி மஞ்சள் துண்டை அணிந்து கொண்டு பாபாவிடம் ஆசீர்வாதம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.//

Suresh,
I'm not sure why you've quoted this excerpt from Charu Nivedita's take. I don't get how one can conclude that Kamal is in this state of mind. (In any case, it's completely irrelevant with respect to the film, but am just asking.) I remember Kamal saying, "Shakespeare suffer-ed more damage at the hands of the merchan-diser; he still survives in the minds of people." But that's a loaded statement which can be interpreted at different levels. And, if Charu had actually met Kamal and talked about the film before coming to this conclusion, I can understood. (In any case, he doesn't suggest anything at all on those lines.)

Otherwise, he is, like most others, just reacting to the decrying of the so-called fan circles (who are essentially just an arbitrary group of people who are fans of Kamal Haasan), not to what Kamal Haasan thinks of the criticisms the film has come to receive.

Ugh, typos!
It should read, I can understand. Or, I'd have understood.

Zero,

I quoted it mostly because it resonates with the state of mind of the fans (as you've mentioned).

As for Kamal's state of mind: there are at least two sources that give some credibility to Charu's claim. One is the interviews you can find in the internet. Where he says "en turban'a thatti udatha" and another where he says "we've been doing this for years, so you cannot just walk in criticize". In both cases, as I see it, he tries to use conceal the said state using the usual associative BS.

Two is Charu's purported friends circle. He wrote once about a conversation he had with Prathap Pothan. Basically Prathap Pothan had told Charu how bad Aalavandhan was and how Kamal spoke to Pothan as if everyone should marvel at it. Pothan had also expressed how Kamal is not as open to criticism (just like Balachander). That was then.
Charu still has friends who hang out with Kamal and I'm sure they are his source to make this claim.

These two reasons aside, we have the "aama nan ulaga nayagan dhan" declaration in the movie that pretty much confirms it.

Before someone tries to clarify that the "mookula kayya veikaranunga" was with reference to Krishnasamy and co. Yes, that's the direct reference. What follows is an extended reference to all this critics (I maybe reading too much into it).

I was just curious, Suresh. I've grown impatient myself towards these "camps" who have been quick to label anyone who didn't like the film (Dasavathaaram) as a Kamal-hater, or one with ulterior motives (whatever that means beats me completely), or a "self-proclaimed aRivu jeevi" -- the last one probably being the most annoying tag. (Oh, yes, I didn't like the film at all.)

What Kamal thinks of himself really doesn't bother me, I'm indifferent to it. And, I say that as a matter of fact, not because I think it's "right." I've seen both the interviews that you've linked to, before. About the first one, as I had commented elsewhere, it's the self-righteous tone that bothered me, more than anything else. I'd go a step further and say that the response of, say, SJ Suryah was more appropriate, to these kind of oppositions.

By the way, I wasn't referring to SJ Suryah's retort that he's a bachelor and all, which Mr. Thol. Thirumavalavan refers to in the first video. LOL!
I meant his general response to the demand for a title change -- I think he just said that it's none of their business.

contrary to Charu's views and Suresh's views, the above response seems to me as a confession of a person desparately in need of an economic success (and has pushed himself to get in tune to the market pulse). Objective: so that he can get the lead players sponsor his next big ventures Marma Yogi and Maruthanayagam(?).

imo Dasa was an experimental proj of KH to mixup 'his' kind of script with commercial 3rd class director KSR's pre-defined formula. At the end the movie it failed at both the counts. Neither the C class can understand the significance of the screenplay in the plot/the bio weopens nor the A class could appreciate the commercial & KH overdoze all-over in the movie.

All he wanted was a commercial hit, but he shouldn't have mixed it up with his intellectual prowess aka 'hey ram''anbe sivam'. It simply wont go together. He ofcourse has that mamadhai, but he really deserves it, atleast for having watched tons of international DVDs. lol.

Obvious that KH is afraid of another flop like Heyram, but he never seems to have gotten a practical lesson in playing the ground rules set by his CURRENT counterparts in the industry.

Well !! u can roast as much u want..and praise as much u want..
The Truth is Kamal made a mockery of the existing system..When he made good movies , critics and avg movie goer didn't support him.
This time he managed to play around with all ..but the effort required '10'...so it is not just a matter of egoism to do 10...but a way to create and sustain the hype atleast to make it count in Box office..
he knows that this is not his best by any means except time and hard work he has put in.

On the youtube vidoes, when someone always irk u, u tend to go bit outrageous..so there he was directly referencing ppl who criticise him...Don't you think that critics always have his personal life in mind when criticising his movies ??

Personally I felt one should have this ego to come up higher but not at expense of others..
Kamal didn't spoil anyone, he gave ample scope in his movies barring few like DASA.

So why people go gaga about his so called 10 role egoism.

Hi da. Wrote a review for this recently released 'Subramaniapuram' movie. Working for Times of India now. :D
Was wondering if you'll check it when you have the time and tell me if you think it decent?
Don't think I'll trust anybody else's judgement.

There's the link. The paper's dated today. It's the supplement for the 'Economic Times' newspaper.
